While in 2024 pink still represents feminity and more than ever Barbie. It hasn’t always been the case. History says that it is first man who wore pink clothes during the Middle Ages. First seen as a masculine and strong color derivative of red, a symbol of power and wealth, it took a long time for the color to have its name. When Madame de Pompadour became fond of the color she made it feminine by the image the society had of her.

What about its cultural meaning?

Pink also has its connotation in each culture. While in most countries like India pink represents love, compassion, and feminity, in countries like China it takes the same meaning as red: chasing evil and bringing happiness.

In nature, you can easily find pink like with the sunset or the cherry blossom representing calm and peacefulness.

Even tho pink is nowadays gentrified, it still has a significant importance in design. Used alone or with other colors pink has a true personality and always creates an amazing contrast.

So how to use pink and with which other colors?

As we already said, pink is sufficient in itself. You can use different shades of pink and create your unique palette. But you could also blend it, with yellow, orange, or even blue. Easily compatible with its complementary color: green.

As a mix of white and red, it works well together. And if you want the pink to pop up use it with black, it will create a great contrast and give more personality to this good old neutral black. For example, you can see this kind of contrast with the K-pop group: Black Pink, breaking this gentle and nice girl image.

The conclusion: TO NOT USE SPARINGLY
